Is food shaming secretly impacting you?

Lets talk about these "What I eat in a day to lose X number of pounds" posts.

Just the idea of it makes me cringe. These videos tend to shows someone displaying their food and flaunting their weight loss.

Maybe these people are trying to help out in a way that they think is going to be beneficial for the people that are seeing their content. From my perspective what they are actually doing is continuing a very negative rhetoric that we need to fit into this one size fits all schematic of diet culture.

If what you’re taking away from their posts are ideas of some meals or portions then that’s fantastic. That could be very helpful. Unfortunately what this does for a lot of people is provoke a sense of shame where their internal dialogue now goes to, "Why can’t I do that?"

Another thing people may start to think is, That’s not for me, my body won’t respond to that, that’s too hard. The truth of the matter is our nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all situation. We can refer back to the reality that we can all do the same exact things and have different bodies. This is why you’ll never see me promote what I eat in a day.

The truth is your body processes certain things differently than someone else body. For example some of us are carb burners, some of us are fat burners. Some of us respond really well to high intensity training, and others to slow and controlled. Some people are focused on balancing hormones and some blood sugars. Its a mixed bag of goals out there and what you eat should be geared towards your individual needs.

The big thing that I can advise for you is to take away from this fad is use what works for you and remove any kind of emotional attachment to these types of posts/images. We all have our own journey to take with food, which is why I take a holistic approach in my practice , let’s put the power in our own hands and we can let these influencers and their food shaming tactics run their course.

Alright everybody, it’s summer. It’s over 100° here in Phoenix daily, and it is just too hot to be covering ourselves up. Most of us are finding ways to relieve the heat, like going to the lake, jumping in the pool, or cooling down with some chilled desserts. My question to you is, have you thought about how you’re taking care of your skin during the heat? Since our skin is really exposed in the summer and we’re wearing looser clothing, we often don’t think about other ways to ensure our skin...

So the new Buzz Word that I see popping up in the wellness world is cortisol. So before I get into my take on this, let’s talk about what is cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, which are located on top of your kidneys. It is often called the "stress hormone" because it helps your body respond to stress. When you encounter a stressful situation, cortisol levels increase, giving you a quick burst of energy and focus. This is part of the body's "fight-or-flight"...

I have always been a fan of a good documentary, specifically regarding health. With the recent publication of Netflix’s documentary, 'Hack your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut,' I was more than excited to see what they had to say. First, I had to create space and time so that I could fully immerse myself in the documentary. One thing I wanted to do for myself is not do any background research prior to watching it so I didn’t come in with a biased opinion. By the end I was left with a pleasant...
